Vom Haus Dettmer Long Coat German Shepherds
"To my
dearest, deepest 'treasure'. I love you. I adore you. I 'breathe' you.
I'm so grateful that God picked ME to be your mother. I know now that
having you
was my greatest reason for living. Thank you for your many blessings.
Please remember, no
matter how long, or how far, don't ever stop holding my hand."
|

After much time, work
and emotions, I have come to a point to publicly
announce my Long Coat German Shepherd's role in my
Humanitarian
projects. Although, I've been a Humanitarian
most of my adult life, as I've gotten older and
wiser, it's become much more important to me.
To make such a public announcement is also
very difficult as it's very, very personal to
me. It's not just something that I've decided
to do, because I'm a nice person with a lot of
time on my hands, (which time for sure I could
use more of). It's something that I MUST do to
feed my soul. It's a bleeding desire to give
back. It's a yearning to help. It's an
overwhelming awakening, as if I can't sleep at
night thinking that there is something in my
life that I HAVE TO do to help someone, with
what it is I make out of my life, my passion.
As if someone has been 'pushing' me to do
something worthwhile. I know where that
'push' generates from. A part of me, a
deeper 'being'.
After a 20+ year
Corporate career, (non-fulfilling, put best), I
quit my job. I was scared after working
sometimes two and three jobs at times, but
something said...it's time'. In taking a
good look at what was my passion, I found were
my child and my dogs. Unfortunately, I had
lost my child and had filled my life with many,
many wonderful dogs.
All my life, my dogs
made me feel 'complete' within the boundaries of
a 'family'. I had them with me at all
times, as a child and as an adult.
When times were fun, my dogs were with me it
seemed. When they were not so fun, they
seemed to help me 'breathe'.
I dont' recall
ever NOT having a dog. My mom
raised dogs, breeding and training and along the
way, I've had many, many
different breeds. But, always came back to the
German Shepherd. A number of times!
Several years ago, I
fell upon the Long Coated German Shepherd and
that is where I 'reside' today. Although,
a German Shepherd is a German Shepherd, Standard
Coat or Long Coat German Shepherd, (I've had
both), they are THE most loyal, never faltering
dog I have EVER owned! In good times, bad
times, and at times the only reason I can say I
might have 'survived' the times!
The work I
do with my dogs today is in memory of my dear son, Steven. My only
child. He died at the age of 10 from Leukemia.
For some, this is not always easy to say, nor
do you go around waving a banner. You
always seem to have to protect
'others' feelings. Don't want them to feel
'uneasy'.
I've sold dogs for many, many years. My
newest website was built and launched to display
my dogs, my love of such and to sell them around
the world.
In honor of my dear son, a portion to all
of the profits would be donated to special organizations to
help save the lives of children with
life-threatening illnesses. To sell
throughout the US would mean raising more money
for this cause, and so I have! I'm very
blessed and have met some fabulous friends along
the way!
In communication of my
intentions, I also took into consideration of other family members who
still do mourn the passing of my son and others
who find themselves in the same situation today.
However, I find out more and more that
everything is better when communicated and the
response has been so positively overwhelming by
all! Yet, I still
find it hard sometimes when folks write and say
how THEY were touched by my pages since they too
suffered similar tragedy. But, I'm forever grateful
as the pages I write brings such happiness, as
they pass thru places afar that only one can
imagine, and the money I have raise is going to
children that might otherwise not have had a
chance.
Through the sales of my
dogs and the wonderful people who are buying
them, little lives all over the US might have a
greater hope for survival. My heart is so much
more full where there once was a HUGE hole, yet
I doubt it will ever grow tulips! :) I know
now, there is a reason in why dogs were put into
my life over many, many years ago! My passion I
now know and a purpose in life I have found.
I have met so many wonderful,
positive and generous people. I
provide them wonderful companions. They
provide a chance at life.
My life now has
taken on a new and greater meaning.
The more one gives, the
more one really receives. And, I'm not talking
material/monetary things, in any sense of the
word!! It takes a lot to realize
this sometimes!
My son truly was a 'Saint' in every sense of the
word and "I" was blessed to be chosen to be his
Mother. I'm forever grateful for this very
special title. The family I shared
him with was a God-given blessing and I'm a
better person for having had them in my life.
His memory and his
work is never done and his challenges he faced
helped saved the life of others, (and still does
today). The 'world' is a better place for
having had him in it. I miss him.
I wish he were here, just as others feel who
have suffered the same loss. But, we
probably all know in our hearts, these special,
chosen children made/make a greater difference
in what they endure in such little time than
what some do in an entire life lived!
Profits from sales of
VOM HAUS DETTMER Long Coat German Shepherd dog
sales are
sent off to St. Jude Hospital to assist with
medical expenses for children receiving
treatment for Cancer or life-threatening
illnesses. St. Jude Hospital is a place in the
states where no child/family member is ever
turned away for their inability to pay! All
expenses are paid by the Danny Thomas
Foundation/Founder and by private donations and
funding. Vom Haus Dettmer family
members have been a contributor for many years to
this exceptional institution, as well as other
important charities to help save our children!
Hopes are to make a 'greater' difference via the
sale of our puppies. Everyone benefits!
Loving, loyal companions provided to new owners
seeking puppies, with profits going to save the
lives of our children who are sick or suffering!
Together, we can ALL make a difference!
For those of you who I've
yet to meet, and to those of you who already
know me, you will all come to know that I lost
my dear son,
Steven,
at the age of 10 to Leukemia. He was my
most significant accomplishment,
my greatest love and my deepest weakness. I
adore him. I miss him. Yet, his days 'behind
me' make me no less proud of the way he 'walked'
his travels. And, even more proud as I come to
realize today, even more along the way!
Diagnosed at the age of 2,
Steven traveled a very long and difficult
journey. Through his zest for life, his
compassion for animals, his amazing ability to
look at evil with nothing less than a positive
attitude, his overwhelming love and forgiveness
of each and every 'being', I feel it is
necessary to share the 'wealth' of what he has
taught me by giving back to those in need - in
his honor.
Steven was 'my' only child, yet he
left me with a 'pack' of wonderful, wonderful
fur-kids, and a desire to give of myself'
through the loyal, unconditional and undying
love I have always shared with my dogs. When
asked why I breed dogs, this is the what sums
it all up, in a nutshell.

Steven on the set with a favorite 'friend',
Eric. Although, thought a bit young for an
interest in daytime television, he never missed
a day of watching the Young and the Restless
with his nurses and dear grandmother during his
daily treatments at the hospital. He could talk
Y& R with the best of them! Never missed a
beat! We're still so grateful today for all
members of the set and CBS for their kindness
and generosity shown Steven that day. And, the
Make-A-Wish Foundation, for making it all
happen. |

Steven had a great love for gambling. I guess
you could say, his life was a gamble. Either
way, he loved to play cards, Liar's Poker with
his uncles (guessing numbers off dollar bills),
and playing the meat and cheese wheel at the
church festivals. Sometimes, he'd hire a few
'runners' and have multiple games going at
once! His favorite game show was the Price is
Right. He was lucky enough to be a guest on one
of the shows. Although, not old enough to be a
contestant, he was able to sneak back and get a
picture of himself with the big wheel. He
wanted so bad to spin it to win a $1000! It was
upside down and locked though! |
|
DURING STEVEN'S YOUNGER YEARS, I RAISED SCW TERRIERS. HE
LOVED THE DOGS. HE DID THE SOCIALIZING, THE FEEDING AND
EVEN THE GROOMING! I GUESS IT WAS IN HIS 'GENES'.
SOMETIMES, HE EVEN SHARED THE MEALS AND THE GROOMING TABLE!

Steven 'shares' his
first birthday cake with his grandma D. |
|
100807. My
dear son, may YOUR DAY (Birthday) be everything you wish
for. I pray the stars be the candles on your cake. May
your party be oh so grand, and your dinner guests be many.
May your 'feast' be of BBQ and the music be 'Rhapsody' .
May there be BIG trucks for you to drive till your heart is
content and your eyes are tired. And, may you always share
your bed with the love of your favorite canine companion.
Hope the angels in Heaven give you a glorious celebration of
YOUR day! You friends and family of Vom Haus Dettmer. We
love you!

Due to Steven's
'animated' abilities at such a young age, he was elected to play
the part of Jesus at the Last Supper for his school play. |
|

Steven, like
all men loved to eat! Not sure if it was really the food, or
the thrill of the mess
he could make! BBQ always seemed to be his favorite. I think I
know why!

Steven was a
'die-hard' truck fan. From the time he could talk, it was all
about trucks. He could talk parts, colors, makes, models,
engines, etc. And, by the time he was ten, he was a
'professional' driver. His only problem was reaching the
pedals! Here, he's ten and driving his uncle's V10, Dodge Ram
around a closed public parking lot. Before Steven left us, his
wonderful uncle gave him his very own set of keys to the truck
to take with him! At his funeral, the 'procession' consisted
of ALL trucks first in line, all the way to the cemetery. You
should have seen the trucks. You'd think people RENTED them
from car lots to partake in this request! I don't think there
were many 'cars' in the line!

 |
There was never a
day in Steven's life when he didn't have a dog to love. He always
played with his canine friends either at home or at grandma's
house. He had a gentle touch and a very special bond he shared
with all his canine companions. |

I CREATED THIS PAGE IN HONOR OF MY SON SINCE A SIGNIFICANT
PORTION OF THE DONATIONS THAT I GIVE FROM THE SALES OF MY
PUPPIES ARE IN HIS MEMORY. I DONATE PROCEEDS OF THE SALES OF MY
PUPPIES TO HELP OTHER CHILDREN WITH LIFE-THREATENING DISEASES.
THIS PAGE IS NOT INTENDED TO MAKE YOU SAD. IT DON'T MAKE ME
SAD. THE MEMORIES ON THIS PAGE MAKE ME HAPPY. I LOVE TO TALK
ABOUT MY SON AND HIS ACCOMPLISHMENTS. EVEN THO HE MAY HAVE
SPENT A VERY SMALL AMOUNT OF TIME WITH ME HERE ON EARTH, I
CHERISH EVERY MOMENT I HAD, JUST AS YOU WOULD WITH YOUR CHILDREN
OR SIGNIFICANT 'SOMEONE'. THESE PHOTOS REMIND ME OF HOW PROUD HE
MADE ME. NOT HOW SAD. THEY PUT A SMILE ON MY FACE. THEY MAKE
ME LAUGH - SOMETIMES VERY HARD. I HOPE YOU FIND SOME HUMOR TOO,
WHEN YOU READ THE CAPTIONS. THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO VIEW
OUR "STEVEN" PAGE. IT'S REALLY THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE OF MY
SITE - TO ME THAT IS! IF NOTHING ELSE, IT'S WHY I DO WHAT I
DO. IT'S WHY MY DOGS ARE SO NEAR AND DEAR TO MY HEART. THEY
HAVE HELPED TO FILL A VERY SPECIAL VOID.
JUST LOOK AT THOSE EYES!
