"Nadia Vom
Haus Dettmer"
(Na Dee Ah)
Nadia is a bi-colored black and tan Long
Haired German Shepherd. Her colors include
tan and silver, amongst her deep, dark
black. However, unless you are looking
closely at her feet or chest, you would
think she was all black. She is very
majestic and mysterious looking. To some,
she might appear ‘scary’.
Nadia was born in the United States, bred by
the newly defined goals of the “Old
Fashioned German Shepherds” or “Old World
German Shepherds” - large body and square
frame. She is simply all that! She has a
nice straight back with little to no
angulation.
Her hair is long and silky, although she has
a TON of it! Her heritage provided her a
significant amount of undercoat. Brushing
Nadia is a never ending chore! But, when
all is said and done, she is simply
stunning!
Nadia has a play drive that is puppy-like,
with a low drive for activity. She prefers
to just lie around and shadow your side,
happily napping at your feet. Her
excitement is short-lived; excited only when
she first sees you or someone coming to
greet her. She loves to be out and playing
with the rest of the dog ‘pack’, although
you will mostly find her lounging in the
tall grass watching them play after the
initial ‘romp’.
Nadia is a Long Coated German Shepherd with
a flowing gait. She’s very pretty in her
movements. She runs like a princess and
jumps like a deer. She is a pleasure to
watch, as she bounds around almost
effortlessly with her large size. She
enjoys running off a bit of energy in the
woods, taking in the fresh air as she covers
a lot of ground in a short time. The deer
fear her, as she’s quick on her feet and
intimidating in size and color!
Nadia Vom Haus Dettmer is very tolerant of people and other
dogs. She’s accepting of the cat and has
been known to ‘nurse’ a few strays! She’s
been to obedience class and although she has
a ‘natural’ ability, she’s very bored in
training. She prefers to lay and watch.
Sitting means lying. Down is great!
Standing is tough, as any petting is an
immediate que to lie down.
Nadia’s manners in training class, around
people and other dogs are fantastic. She’s
just not bred with a drive to excel in much
work or any sporting events. She will chase
a ball (sometimes), but mainly loves to
‘mother it’. She’s just a plain wonderful
companion for those with a low drive or
sedentary life-style.
Nadia has a good structure. Her bone is
thick and her body is proportionate to
such. Her head is more ‘feminine’ looking,
which go very well with her long, flowing
hair and princess-type gait.
Nadia LOVES to eat and does put on the
pounds very quickly. We have to monitor her
daily so that she doesn’t put on more weight
than she can ‘safely’ carry. Her average
weight is 110, and we work very hard to keep
it there. Although, her heritage can
breed for size, Nadia’s structure is not as
big as her appetite or what she ‘should’
carry. Maintaining a ‘correct’ weight,
proportionate to the structure, is VERY
important to our breeding program at Vom
Haus Dettmer. We want our dogs to live a
good, long life without heart and health
problems due to excessive weight.
Nadia’s Long Coated German Shepherd puppies
have come larger than standard size. As
with any good breeding program, we take
Nadia’s heritage into consideration (her
temperament that relishes human contact and
her low drive), while breeding her to males
of shorter croups (as not to add too much
length to an already long body) with a
superior mind and athletic ability. Bred
this way, Nadia’s puppies have produced some
of the most versatile, naturally intelligent
and even tempered progeny. Looks just came
natural! You will see some of Nadia’s
outstanding Long Haired German progeny
continue Nadia’s important mission in the
future!
We are blessed to have had Nadia at our home
in our Vom Haus Dettmer breeding program.
Nadia’s offspring have brought us great joy,
as they have to the many families that own
them. Nadia has made a significant impact
to our St Jude Children’s Research Hospital
efforts.
The profits that Nadia’s puppies have given
to research and help save lives for the
families and children stricken by
life-threatening illnesses have been
worthwhile. The efforts will continue with
Nadia’s progeny, as do all the dogs sold at
Vom Haus Dettmer.
As Nadia enjoys her retirement, I want to
sincerely thank EVERYONE, including God, for
putting Nadia in my life. To Nadia for some
of the most FABULOUS puppies ever produced -
Ultimate Long Coated German Shepherd
Companions that will follow in her
footsteps. And, no-less, the beautiful
friendships I’ve made along the way that
still remain so close, although some are so
far across the miles. Most importantly, the
love and support that I have received of the
mission that is so important to my heart.
May the ones I love forever guide me and
forever keep holding my hand!
